Quantitative Geneticist / Data Scientist

As a Quantitative Geneticist at Solynta, you will develop methods, templates and tools that empower your Research and Breeding colleagues to maximize the potential of genotype and phenotype data. Your programming skills enable you to integrate statistical genetics techniques with state-of-the-art machine learning methods to create smart algorithms and analytical tools. Your focus will be on developing these tools, improving their accessibility and enhancing their analytical performance. In this way you will provide valuable insights that enable our breeding team to fully leverage predictive breeding, optimize selections and increase genetic gain. This position reports to the Data Science Lead who leads a team of 4 data scientists.

Requirements:

  • MSc or PhD degree in plant or animal breeding, statistics, mathematics, or quantitative genetics.
  • Several years of relevant (industrial) working experience.
  • Strong knowledge of field trial analytics.
  • Experience in GxE modelling, mixed modelling, genomic prediction, and machine learning.
  • Proven expertise in simulating datasets relevant to plant breeding.
  • Ability to handle large complex datasets, with excellent programming skills in R, Python, and/or Julia.
  • An inquisitive, innovative and critical mind-set with a creative and pro-active attitude.
  • High degree of initiative, independence, reliability, and flexibility in simultaneously handling multiple projects.
  • Flexible and adaptable, able to be effective in a dynamic working environment.
