To expand our Data DevOps Team and to help drive our business we are looking for a:
DevOps Engineer
To help decision making in our hybrid potato breeding program, we use large amounts of data and innovative models. As we are expanding our activities, we're committed to enhancing the quality and scalability of our software. The focus of the DevOps Engineer position is to elevate our software & infrastructure deployments into robust production systems, ensuring quality, speed, and maintainability. The DevOps engineer works from a growing team of four software and data engineers, with whom in-house developed software and data systems are brought to production. In this role, you will design and optimize CI/CD pipelines, extend infrastructure-as-code, implement automation strategies, and enhance application monitoring.
Responsibilities:
As a DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for the deployment and monitoring of internal applications and ETL pipelines on AWS, ensuring high availability and performance. You’ll work closely with data and software engineers to support the stable and scalable growth of our own DevOps platform. This includes optimizing Docker images to be lightweight and fast to build, creating standardized CI/CD pipelines to streamline development workflows, and contributing to the continuous improvement of ETL applications. Additionally, you will play a key role in enhancing our infrastructure by implementing new features using Terraform or AWS CDK, driving automation, efficiency, and scalability across the platform.
Typical project 1: new application and processing
In one of our projects, the breeding team proposes a new predictive model to enhance plant selection. The system comprises ETL pipelines, an HTTP API, and a website, with each component deployed on AWS. As a DevOps Engineer, you ensure that the containers run efficiently on ECS with appropriately allocated resources, while maintaining strict security standards by configuring IAM roles with the least privilege necessary. You also optimize the CI/CD pipelines to enable rapid Docker image builds, enhancing deployment speed and reliability. Additionally, you collaborate with the software engineer to design and implement a Git strategy that aligns with the breeding team’s development cycle, supporting smooth and efficient workflows.
Typical project 2: automated RDS scaling
With Postgres adoption increasing, the DevOps team decides to parametrise the AWS RDS Postgres instances. To get this implemented, you gather requirements for a parametrised setup, enabling colleagues to deploy their own database. You implement the Terraform code and update the CICD pipeline, in consultation with Solynta’s external partners.
